Canoe Trips (Part 5)

In Part 5 of the “Tour” of Mi-A-Kon-Da, one of the camp trip leaders discusses the Tripping Program at Mi-A-Kon-Da. We see the final camp fire and departure day as campers say goodbye to the island and each other.

“We go out as far as 50 kms away. Some of them we just go out on the lake and paddle back the next day, and sometimes we’ll go lots and lots of portages in a day. I think on trip you learn things about yourself that you didn’t know before, like you can do things, you can lift a pack and you can explore and be interested. I think it makes them a lot more independent.” -Tripper

“I’ve never been homesick…Every year I get campsick. It feels very unreal for a while, being at home. And I don’t get that feeling when I come back up here. The moment I got here this year I was like, I’m home, this is living… Camp is life, this is real life up here.” – Camp Staff
