COVID-19 Communication

Updated April 1, 2020

At Camp Mi-A-Kon-Da, our campers, families and staff are our most important priority. This article will act as a central place for all updates surrounding COVID-19 and how it impacts Camp Mi-A-Kon-Da. It will be updated as new information emerges.

If you have registered or are considering registering your daughter for the Summer 2020 season, you have the right to know all of your options before making an informed decision regarding your daughter’s registration.

As of April 1, 2020, we hope that we will be able to run all of our planned sessions as scheduled. We are optimistic that over the next 2½ months that the COVID-19 situation improves to a point where we are able to be open for the summer. However we understand that the situation is evolving on a day-to-day basis and we will continue to monitor the situation and keep our families informed. This article will regularly be updated in the coming months and registered families will be contacted directly should anything change.

Please know that we have well-established health-specific protocols in place under the guidance of the North Bay-Parry Sound District Health Unit to protect our campers and staff during the summer season. As we plan for the season ahead and this situation continues to develop, we are reviewing our in-camp procedures to ensure we are protecting our campers and staff as best as possible. We will communicate any updates or changes to our procedures with all of our camper families once they are made.

Updated Payment Deadline

Given the current situation surrounding COVID-19 we understand that families may be feeling uncertain financially and unsure of summer plans. We are empathetic regarding this and want you to feel secure and informed with whatever decision you make moving forward with your daughter’s Summer 2020 registration. In response to this we have updated our Payment Deadline and our Cancellation Policy.

New Payment Deadline: June 1, 2020 – All camp fees are due. Please login to your CampBrain Account to view your Statement of Account.

Updated Cancellation Policy

On April 1st, 2020 we sent an email to all registered families with the details surrounding our updated Cancellation Policy. Please refer to this email for any questions regarding cancellation. If you did not receive this email, please check your junk folder. If you still do not see it, feel free to contact us at and we will be happy to send it to you.

International Families

We understand that our international families are in a unique situation due to current global travel restrictions. Please refer to your local government travel recommendations and make a decision based on your level of comfort. If you have questions about our local status, don’t hesitate to contact us. If you decide to cancel your daughter’s travel, you will need to contact the airline provider to find out their individual booking cancellation/change policies. Additionally, it might be worth looking into obtaining travel insurance with a ‘Cancel-for-any-reason’ option to provide additional security. We are happy to assist our families as much as we are able and will handle each international family situation on a case-by-case basis.

Camper Corner

In the mist of all of the uncertainty in regards to COVID-19, we wanted to provide a positive, online space for our campers and their families to find inspiration and resources that are camp themed and child-focused. Each week, registered families will receive a “Camper Corner” newsletter that provides them with a variety of engaging activities for the whole family to participate in while at home. We are making this available to alumni and friends of the Camp Mi-A-Kon-Da community, so if you would like to be included in this weekly newsletter, please contact us at

New Camper Orientation

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic we have decided to cancel our in-person New Camper Orientation that was scheduled for April 19th.

This change has made us think outside the box and we have come up with what we feel is an exciting alternative! We will present all of the information that would have been shared in-person at the New Camper Orientation into an online format in the form of an educational video series. There will be a “New Camper Family” section in our “Camper Corner” newsletter that will include these new educational videos. Tune in each week and keep an eye out for those videos.

We have collected some resources that we found helpful as we navigate this to help diminish risks. There is SO much coverage available online that it’s hard to know where to turn for relevant information, here are a few official websites where you can find up-to-date facts and advice:

Public Health Agency of Canada – Guidance for Schools K-12 and Childcare Programs COVID-19
Public Health Ontario – Coronavirus Resource Site
Public Health Ontario – What We Know So Far Documents
Health Canada – COVID-19 Website
World Health Organization (WHO) – Information for Members of the Public
World Health Organization (WHO) – Media Briefings

Camp Mi-A-Kon-Da is here to support all of our families, past and present, and between our Directors, the Ontario Camps Association and our local health unit, the situation is continuously being monitored. As this situation is fluid, we ask for your patience and for you to keep up to date through the sources provided.

Medical Advice

The government of Canada has compiled a list of information that we recommend everyone read through so that they have a clear understanding of COVID-19 and how to best protect oneself. This information can be found here.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns. As always, the safety of our campers, staff and families is our number one priority. We appreciate your continued support and patience as we navigate this developing situation.

Stay safe and healthy everyone!
