COVID-19 Communication – Summer 2021

Updated February 1, 2021

With 2020 behind us, we have a lot to look forward to in 2021. However, we also recognize that we are still in the midst of a global pandemic. While the 2021 summer may seem far away we know that many of you are eager to hear about how camp will run this summer. We want to provide an update to all of our campers, families and staff so that you are aware of what we have been up to and what to expect from us as the summer approaches. As always, the health and safety of our campers, families and staff remains our number one priority as we continue to plan for Summer 2021.

We have learned over the course of this pandemic that it is important to be resilient, patient, versatile, and above all, prepared for any diversions from the current plan. Over the past few months, we have been busy working with the government and public health departments through our accreditation body, the Ontario Camps Association (OCA), to outline the best procedures, practices and policies required for us to run a safe and fun summer 2021 program. As with everything else during this pandemic, we expect to make modifications, adjustments, updates and complete rewrites to these documents as new knowledge and information surfaces and the pandemic progresses.

Because of these inevitable and ongoing changes, to avoid any confusion with our parents, campers and staff, we feel it best to wait to share our plan until we have certainty with what will be put in place. This way, we hope to provide one, unified update to everyone and answer everyone’s questions. We want to ensure we provide clarity and confidence with our plans for Camp Mi-A-Kon-Da in Summer 2021.

Prior to camp we plan to host a series of virtual information sessions for both our staff and camper families with any changes in procedures for the upcoming summer. During these sessions, we will address and discuss the modifications to our programming, specific to COVID-19 protocols, as well as give our families and staff the opportunity to ask questions. We will be sure to provide information on common questions such as how we are handling international campers and staff. In the meantime, tune into our monthly Camper Corner emails where we will provide any current updates as we gear up for the summer.

For those curious about our cancellation policy and how it will be affected by the ongoing pandemic, we have created a post detailing how we are approaching Summer 2021 cancellations. Returning families will recognize that we are taking the same approach as we did last year.

We expect this summer to be different in some ways, just as this past year has been, but take comfort in knowing that we are analyzing every adjustment to ensure that there are lots of opportunities for making unforgettable memories and magic to occur. We are lucky to be a part of one of the most positive and optimistic industries in the world. Together we are working hard to make sure that Summer Camp 2021 can happen so that our staff and campers can get their annual dose of Mi-A-Kon-Da magic.

We truly do appreciate the continued messages of hope and thoughtful conversations we have had with families in this unprecedented time. We are constantly reminded of how amazing our Mi-A-Kon-Da community is and how lucky we are to be surrounded by encouraging and supportive families and staff members.

We wish all of our families good health and wellbeing as this pandemic continues to progress. We are here to continue to support our campers, families and staff anyway we can. We look forward to hearing from you, answering your questions and to welcome you back to Birch Island in Summer 2021.

Sincerely,

Pam, Katelyn & Brandon
